GFH:1000
IN DIALOGUE WITH HUMANITY

Great works of World Literature.

This course aims to introduce some classic writings in world literature and inspire reflection of your own life and your place on this small planet, spinning, as it does, around an average star in a vast and uncaring cosmos. The course surveys timeless, epic works from around the world. We will be sampling a broad range of topics including—but not limited to—love, death, god, friendship, immortality, truth, the good life, the relationship of human beings to the cosmos, the limits of knowledge, and, broadly speaking, what it means to be human. Each week we will meet twice, once for a lecture and once for an interactive discussion seminar. Emphasis will be placed on your capacity to respond critically to the selected texts in oral and written presentations, class discussions, short write-ups, quizzes, and a final term paper.

GFH questions your existence.

GFH wonders about your place in the universe.

GFH contains all things and nothing.

GFH reflects.

GFH is no more meaningless than anything else.

GFH knows there’s no new thing under the sun.

GFH is a Swiftie.

GFH takes time.

GFH is required.

Take GFH with Evander!
